Monsplasty

1. What Is Monsplasty?

Monsplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct excess fat and/or sagging in the mons pubis area (the upper part of the genital region).

The aims are to:

• Reduce excess fat in the area
• Tighten and lift sagging tissue
• Achieve a flatter, more proportionate and aesthetic appearance

This procedure provides not only an aesthetic improvement but also functional comfort.

2. Why Does Deformity Occur in the Mons Pubis Area?

Enlargement or sagging of the mons pubis area usually develops after:

• Weight gain and loss
• Pregnancy and childbirth
• Ageing
• Hormonal changes
• Genetic predisposition

This condition can cause discomfort when wearing tight clothing, swimwear and during sexual activity.

3. Aesthetic and Functional Goals of Monsplasty

Monsplasty aims to:

• Provide a flatter and more youthful appearance
• Balance the proportions of the genital area
• Reduce bulging under clothing
• Improve hygiene and comfort of movement

When performed correctly, it achieves these results without disrupting the natural anatomy.

4. Who Is a Suitable Candidate for Monsplasty?

Suitable candidates are women who:

• Have noticeable fullness or sagging in the mons pubis area
• Feel deformity after weight fluctuations
• Are in a general state of health appropriate for surgery
• Have realistic expectations

This procedure is often combined with labiaplasty or vaginoplasty.

5. Preoperative Evaluation and Planning

During the planning phase, the following are assessed:

• Amount of fat in the area
• Skin elasticity
• Degree of sagging

Based on this, it is determined whether:

• Liposuction alone will be sufficient, or
• Skin excision is also required

Excessive tissue removal is avoided.

6. How Is Monsplasty Performed?

Monsplasty can be performed in two main ways:

With liposuction:

• Excess fat tissue is removed with fine cannulas

With skin excision:

• Sagging skin is carefully excised and the area is tightened

Incisions are usually placed within the underwear line so they remain hidden.

7. Combination with Liposuction

In patients with fatty mons pubis:

• Liposuction provides a more natural and smooth result
• If skin elasticity is good, additional skin excision may not be required
• Combining techniques generally does not significantly prolong recovery time

8. Anaesthesia and Surgery Day

• With local anaesthesia, no pain is felt during the procedure
• Mild tenderness and tightness may be experienced after surgery
• Most patients go home on the same day
• Simple painkillers are usually sufficient

9. The First Postoperative Days

In the first days:

• Oedema and swelling are normal
• It is important to keep the area dry and clean
• Tight and restrictive clothing should be avoided
• Rapid recovery is usually seen within the first week

10. Staying in Istanbul and Follow Ups

A stay of 3–4 days in Istanbul is generally sufficient for:

• Postoperative check up
• Assessment of early healing

Sutures are either dissolvable or removed in a short, simple procedure.

11. Returning to Social Life, Work and Sports

• Desk based work: 3–5 days
• Daily social life: around 1 week
• Sports and sexual intercourse: 4–6 weeks

This time frame is necessary to allow the tissues to heal safely.

12. Possible Risks and Limitations

• Infection (rare)
• Asymmetry
• Inadequate tightening
• Temporary changes in sensation

An experienced surgeon and proper technique minimise these risks.

13. Results and Expectation Management

After monsplasty, the goals are:

• A smooth and natural mons pubis contour
• An appearance that is harmonious with the rest of the genital area
